The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has reported that cases of Malaria in America have reached a 40 year high with approximately 2,000 cases being diagnosed in 2011.
The CDC stated that almost all of the reported cases involved patients who had traveled to countries where malaria is transmitted, and who had either not taken antimalarial, or had not taken the correct dosage. Whilst most had visited sub-Saharan african, many had contracted the disease whilst in India -the country from which the largest number of cases were imported into the US.
