Landmark 3 years for India in battle against polio

This week marks 3 years since India’s last reported case of polio. Thanks to the full support of the Indian government, an immunization push has eradicated polio from the country.

But some fear a resurgence of the disease in other parts of the world. With Pakistan, Afghanistan and Nigeria still on the World Health Organization’s (WHO) list of polio-endemic countries, as well as outbreaks in Syria as a result of decreased vaccinations due to fighting, the threat of a resurgence in polio cases is growing as conflicts continue to rage across the globe.
