While the vaccine for Herpes Zoster is a safe and effective preventive measure for reducing the overall burden and severity of HZ, the skin test with varicella-zoster virus antigen has been discovered as being an excellent surrogate for predicting the risk of Herpes Zoster. At the upcoming World Vaccine Congress Asia 2013, Mr. Yoshinobu Okuno will be speaking on the topic entitled "Herpes Zoster: Skin test with varicella-zoster virus antigen to predict risk of herpes zoster in population to advance herpes zoster vaccine development". His talk will cover studying the incidence of herpes zoster in Japan through an assessment of the skin test with varicella-zoster virus antigen. He will also be sharing on how to design an effective study to determine predictive and immunological factors for herpes zoster as well as assessing the opportunities for vaccine development for herpes zoster.

Mr. Okuno is the Director of The Research Foundation for Microbial Diseases of Osaka University at BIKEN, Japan.
