Technologies for the discovery and development of new vaccines by Dr. Agnete B. Fredriksen, CSO, Vaccibody AS

Dr Fredriksen began by defining the current needs of vaccines:

· Need for a new technology giving fast, high, sustainable and broad immune responses

o Few vaccinations

o Low doses

o High safety profile

o Efficacy in challenging settings- like therapeutic cancer vaccines

· Interest for a technology tuning the antibody and T cell responses

o Custom design vaccines for each disease's correlate of protection

§ Humoral

· Isotypes, location

§ Cellular

· Th1, Th2

· CTL

Cytokine profiles

Vaccibody AS is working on developing new technolgoyies to meet these needs. In particular, Dr Fredriksen discussed Vaccibodies: flexible, dimeric vaccines able to bind antigen presenting cells 4 Targeting Module Vaccine Module Dimerization Module Ligands binding to Antigen Presenting Cells Hinge and CH3 Domain from IgG Cancer, viral or bacterial antigens.
