The Biotech CEO of the Year category was open to Chief Executives from start-up / early-stage and medium sized biotechnology.

The criteria used to judge this category will be as follow:

  • Ability to move the business from early stage to a more mature company
  • Quality and diversity of the vaccine pipeline and candidates 
  • Advancements in taking a new product to market or through clinical stages
  • Meaningful licensing or partnership deals
  • Securing significant new funds for growth

Winner: Andy Sheldon of Medicago

Judges specific comments on the winner included:

1.    Raised $65m in 2011 took the company to the top of the Canadian biotechnology equity financings last year, whilst leading the efforts on securing a successful strategic alliance with Mitsubishi Tanabe Pharma
2.     Under his direction, his company has completed numerous partnerships with groups including a Top 10 Global Pharma company, USAMRIID and IDRI
