Dr Sean Du, executive director of China's leading vaccine company Jiangsu Simcere Pharmaceuticals, stated that the worldwide market for vaccines has more than doubled from 2005 to 2008, having grown at a compound annual rate of 32 %.
From year 2008 to 2009, vaccine sales was up by another 16 % and hit the mark of $22.1 billion in 2009 and will continue to rise annually at a rate of 9.7 % for the next five years, which could push annual sales as high as $35 billion by 2015.
This picture indicates that Asia needs to pull up its sleeves in research, development and manufacturing of vaccines and draw global attention for better investments.
At the 12th annual World Vaccine Congress we will have the chance to hear from Dr Du and his views on Discovering the vaccine research and development capabilities in China. Dr Du will explore the research and development of China's vaccine field and the changes after WHO's approval of regulatory standards. We will open up the discussion to the challenges facing China's vaccine fields in the increasing demands for more and better vaccines.
What are the proposing strategies to respond to the above challenges through technology innovation, improving regulation and strengthening international cooperation?
All this and much more will be discussed on April 11th 2012.
